IMD Warns of Heatwave in India: High Temperatures Ahead

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that central and northwest India will experience a heatwave until April 29, while eastern India will face hot conditions until April 26. They predict that maximum temperatures will rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in these areas over the next week.

                                                                  Heatwave conditions are expected in the following places:

                                                                                                   Until April 29: Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, western Madhya Pradesh, and western Rajasthan.
– Until April 27: Eastern Madhya Pradesh.
– Until April 26: Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha (Maharashtra), Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
– Until April 25: Chhattisgarh.
– April 24-25: Central Maharashtra and the Marathwada region.

                                                                                          Warm nights are also likely in some areas, like Bihar until April 25, Odisha on April 23-24, and West Bengal on April 24-25.

                                                                        Mahesh Palawat from Skymet Weather said, “Winds are now coming from the west and northwest, which will increase temperatures. We expect temperatures in Delhi to reach 42 degrees Celsius.”

                                                                                                However, northeast India will continue to see heavy rainfall until April 27. Starting April 26, a fresh round of rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected in eastern India.

                                                                                On Tuesday, temperatures in many places reached between 42-46 degrees Celsius in eastern Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. Some areas, including Delhi and Haryana, were in the 38-42 degree Celsius range. The hottest place recorded was Jharsuguda in Odisha, at 46.2 degrees Celsius.

                                                                           There are also weather patterns affecting rainfall. In northeast India, widespread rain with possible thunderstorms and strong winds (40-50 km/h, with gusts up to 60 km/h) is expected. Heavy rain warnings are in place for Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until the end of the week. There is even a chance of hailstorms in Jharkhand on April 27.
