A Texas politician, Bobbie J. Mitchell, was attacked at her home on April 21 by her grandson. The Denton County Sheriff’s Office stated that Bobbie, who is 76 years old, and her husband, Fred Mitchell, 75, were found hurt just before 4 a.m. in their home in Lewisville. Bobbie was the first Black mayor of Lewisville and has served as a Denton County Commissioner since 2000.
While Bobbie was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition, Fred sadly died about an hour after the attack. The attacker, named Mitchell Blake Reinacher, is 23 years old and is one of Bobbie’s nine grandchildren. He was arrested at the scene and is facing serious charges.
Bobbie’s career includes serving on the Lewisville City Council before becoming mayor in 1993. People in the community are shocked by this tragedy. Lewisville police spokeswoman Rachel Roberts said this incident will impact the community deeply and they stand against violence. State Rep. Jared Patterson described Bobbie as Denton County’s “most beloved public servant” and asked everyone to pray for her during this difficult time as she deals with her recovery and the loss of her husband.
