Mumbai: Rohit Sharma recently scored a fantastic 76 not out in a match against CSK, but his reaction was pretty calm. Some say he might be getting more serious with age. His teammates, however, were very happy because whenever Rohit performs well, the other team usually struggles, as MI captain Hardik Pandya pointed out.
Rohit began strong but the team also did well with their bowling and with Suryakumar Yadav hitting the CSK bowlers hard. Talking about his batting, Rohit said, “I still want to hit big when the ball is right there. I know it hasn’t been great lately, but I won’t stop believing in myself.” He understands that scoring runs has become tougher, but belief is crucial for any athlete.
But does this great innings mean Rohit is back on track? It’s hard to say just from one T20 match. Sometimes luck plays a big part in this format, and Rohit got lucky on a couple of occasions. His earlier low scores could have been affected by a lack of luck, too.
MI head coach Mahela Jayawardena noted, “He just needs to fight through the tough times.” Meanwhile, Rohit’s teammate Will Jacks reflected on his past amazing performance and said, “Those days don’t come often. Cricket is not easy.”
Rohit’s recent scores went from 0, 8, 13, 17, 18, 26 to now 76, showing clear improvement. MI’s next challenge is against SRH, where the pitch might be great for batting, giving Rohit a chance to continue his good form.
For Rohit, practicing well is key to success. He said, “If I start doubting myself, I just add more pressure. So, it’s important to have a plan and stay balanced.” When Rohit shines during the Powerplay, it lets other players like Yadav and Tilak Varma take advantage in the middle overs, setting up a good finish for Hardik and the others in the final overs.
In other news, the BCCI recently announced player contracts. Rohit is still in the A+ category. This contract or his recent performance won’t really affect his chances in Test matches for India against England. The selectors need to decide if Rohit will be a good opener there, especially since he has experience playing in England.
Even though he had a tough time in Test cricket this year, runs in T20 cricket are a great confidence booster for him!
