On Saturday, Delhi Police told the court about their ongoing investigation into former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, a former MLA, and a councillor. They are accused of damaging public property by putting up large signs and posters. The police need more time to find the accused.
The report was presented to Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal at the Rouse Avenue Court, which scheduled the next hearing for May 3. The police mentioned that they created a site plan of the locations where the signs were placed.
Earlier, on March 28, the police filed a report after a complaint was made against Kejriwal and others for violating the Defacement of Public Property Act. The court asked the police to take action after receiving a complaint from Shiv Kumar Saksena.
Saksena said that Kejriwal and the others misused public funds to display big hoardings in several areas of Dwarka, including parks and public roads. One hoarding even claimed that the Delhi Government would start registrations for a pilgrimage at Kartarpur Sahib and displayed photos of Kejriwal and the former MLA. Another hoarding wished locals for religious festivals and showed pictures of various political figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Saksena complained that the police didn’t act on his report, so he went to court. In 2022, police said they found no hoardings at the locations mentioned, and the court dismissed his complaint. However, Saksena appealed, and the Rouse Avenue Court instructed the police to look into the matter seriously.
The complainant’s lawyer argued that the police report didn’t properly investigate who put up the hoardings. The police countered that they couldn’t find details about where the posters were printed. They argued that some names on the complaint were missing, suggesting it was incomplete. However, the court emphasized that the police could still investigate any person involved in the situation, even if they weren’t named in the complaint.
