Dust Storm Causes Mass Flight Delays and Chaos at Delhi Airport

A dust storm hit Delhi on Friday evening, causing problems for travelers at Delhi Airport. Between Friday night and Saturday morning, more than 50 flights were delayed, about 25 flights were diverted to other places, and 7 flights were canceled because of the storm.

Airport officials and security staff kept an eye on the situation and tried to help passengers. However, many people faced trouble waiting for their flights. The flights that were redirected took longer to arrive, making the airport very busy, even though there were fewer passengers than usual that day.

Airlines reported that delays happened due to congestion in air traffic control. Passengers complained about the chaos at the boarding gates and that airline staff seemed confused about the delay.

One flight, AI 2512, was supposed to leave at 7:30 PM on April 11, 2025, but continued to be delayed for hours. Passengers felt trapped at the airport throughout the night with no clear information about their flight. They were not given basics like food and water, especially for families with babies, kids, pregnant women, and sick people, unless they made a fuss. The ground staff from Air India were unkind to the passengers.

When passengers complained to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the response was gentle towards the Air India staff instead of helping the passengers. One passenger, Dr. HY Desai, reported that flight AI 2512 still had not taken off by 6:53 AM on April 12, 2025. Another traveler, Vipul Singh, shared a video showing a chaotic scene at Terminal 3 of the airport due to poor management. Air India confirmed that a total of 22 flights were diverted and 5 flights were canceled because of the dust storm.
