Madras Welcomes A New 15-Member Cabinet Led by C. Rajagopalachari

Tomorrow morning, Madras will have a new 15-member Cabinet, led by Mr. C. Rajagopalachari. This is the largest Cabinet Madras has ever had! The announcement came after a 45-minute meeting between Mr. Rajagopalachari and the State Governor, Mr. Sri Prakasa.

The only returning member from the previous caretaker government is Mr. A. B. Shetty. Mr. M. A. Manickavelu Naicker, who was elected from the Commonweal Party, is the only member considered an “outsider” in this Congress-led group. He met Mr. Rajagopalachari today to discuss the Commonweal Party’s role in the state assembly; this party has six members in total.

Mr. Rajagopalachari said he wouldn’t share any details until he is officially sworn in tomorrow. The details about the Cabinet members’ roles will be revealed then.

The new Cabinet includes 12 assembly members and 3 members from the Upper House. A statement from Raj Bhavan confirmed that the resignations of the previous Chief Minister Mr. P. S. Kumaraswami Raja and his team will take effect tomorrow.

Here are the members of the new Cabinet:

– Mr. C. Rajagopalachari, M.L.C.

Except for Mr. Rajagopalachari and Mr. Shetty, most of the Cabinet members are new. However, Mr. N. Sankara Reddi previously served as Parliamentary Secretary in a Congress Cabinet back in 1947. He is 53 years old and represents Kurnool.

Mr. D. Sanjeevaya, 30 years old, is likely the youngest member and previously served as a Member of Parliament before joining the Assembly.

Both Mr. Venkataswami Naidu and Dr. U. Krishna Rao, former mayors of Madras, will also serve in the Cabinet. Mr. Naidu is now Deputy Chairman of the Upper House and has been elected to the Assembly from the city. Dr. U. Krishna Rao, 51, is a doctor and Vice-President of the Indian Medical Association.

Other members also have impressive backgrounds, including Mr. Ranga Reddi, who previously led the Cuddappah District Board, and Mr. V. C. Palaniswami Gounder, who is well-connected in local communities.

Tomorrow marks an exciting new chapter for Madras as this dynamic new Cabinet steps into action!
