Sukhwinder Singh, who was in charge of the Delhi Railway Division, has been moved to a new job at the Patiala Locomotive Works. This decision came after a terrible stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station on February 15, where 18 people tragically lost their lives.

On April 1, the Railway Board announced that Sukhwinder Singh would leave his position as Divisional Railway Manager and take on a new role at Patiala Locomotive Works. He was one of five officials reassigned after the stampede incident, which happened as many passengers rushed to catch trains going to the Maha Kumbh Mela festival in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

Other officials who were also removed from their positions include Mahesh Yadav, the station director, who will now work as the deputy chief operation manager for freight operations. Anand Mohan, who oversaw passenger services, has been reassigned to a job in coaching operations. Mahesh Chand Saini, who was in charge of security at the station, was moved to a position in Kota, while Vikram Singh Rana, another official, is still waiting for a new assignment.

These new jobs are often seen as “punishment postings” because they carry less responsibility. A top-level investigation is currently looking into the incident to find out who was at fault for the tragedy. The stampede occurred in the evening when a large crowd gathered at the railway station, leading to chaos. Sadly, 18 people died, and many others were injured during this tragic event.
