In Phillaur, Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that his government is working to make the police force better. He wants to give them the best tools and modern methods so they can keep law and order in the state. Speaking to a crowd in Phillaur, Mann shared that he has provided 139 new vehicles for police stations around Punjab. This is different from the past when new vehicles were mostly given to higher-ranking officers instead of those who are out on the streets.
Mann emphasized that the police officers who work directly in the communities, called station house officers, are very important because they help keep the peace. He mentioned that Punjab faces challenges because it is a border state, and there are groups trying to disrupt the peace. However, the Punjab Police has always successfully stopped these threats.
He stressed the need to update the police force with the latest technologies in investigation and science. Mann is hopeful that the Punjab Police will continue its proud tradition of serving the public with dedication. He also pointed out that much of the drug smuggling in Punjab comes from Pakistan, mainly through drones. To combat this, the state has partnered with the Border Security Force to use anti-drone technology.
Thanks to these efforts, drug smuggling has dropped significantly, as reported by the Border Security Force. Mann noted that the government plans to hire 1,800 constables and 300 sub-inspectors every year to strengthen the police force. With about 250,000 applicants for these positions each year, Mann believes this is a good way to help young people focus their energy positively and stay away from drugs.
He mentioned that the state is serious about fighting the drug problem, cracking down on traffickers, and ensuring that those who profit from drugs face justice. For the first time, illegal properties owned by drug smugglers will be destroyed or taken away to discourage others from engaging in this crime.
