On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Thailand for a two-day visit to join the sixth BIMSTEC summit. During his stay, he will talk with Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. When he landed at Don Mueang airport, members of the Sikh community welcomed him with Bhangra dance.
After this trip, Modi will head to Sri Lanka for his first visit since the new president was elected. On Thursday evening, he will meet with leaders from BIMSTEC countries, including Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar, and Bhutan. They will sign an important Agreement on Maritime Cooperation.
This summit gives Modi a chance to meet other leaders like Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus. In a statement, Modi called BIMSTEC an important group for improving regional growth, connections, and economic success in the Bay of Bengal area over the last ten years.
