Jos Buttler had a very tough start in the IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In the first over, bowler Mohammed Siraj bowled a ball that England teammate Phil Salt hit, but Buttler dropped the catch. This was a big mistake because Salt is known for his big hitting, and giving him another chance to bat can be dangerous. Buttler looked upset and raised his hand to say sorry to Siraj, who felt bad about it.

The ball from Siraj bounced higher than Salt expected. It brushed the edge of Salt’s bat and went right to Buttler, but he couldn’t catch it. Luckily for Buttler and the Gujarat Titans, Siraj later got Salt out in the third over, and Buttler was very happy and quickly ran to give Siraj a big hug.

Buttler’s problems with catching didn’t stop there. In the 10th over, GT’s leg-spinner Rashid Khan bowled a ball that Liam Livingstone tried to hit but ended up losing his balance. He gave Buttler another chance to stump him, but Buttler missed it again.

Buttler felt “pretty embarrassed” for dropping the catch of Salt. He compared his mistake to South African player Herschelle Gibbs, who famously dropped a catch during the 1999 ODI World Cup while celebrating too early. Buttler said, “I barely got a glove on it, and it hit me in the chest. I was really determined to score some runs.”

Buttler redeemed himself by scoring an unbeaten 73 runs off 39 balls, helping GT win against RCB, who had set a target of 170 runs. Buttler finished the match in style, hitting three sixes in the last over.

After the game, Buttler said, “I really enjoyed it. The bowlers did a fantastic job. If we had fielded better, including myself, we would have chased less. The wicket helped, so the openers played smartly to set up the chase. I’m excited to be here after months of tough cricket. We have a strong team, with great bowlers and batters.”
