On Wednesday, Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making RJD leader Lalu Prasad’s dreams come true with the new Waqf bill. He blamed the Opposition for not doing enough about it.
During a discussion in the Lok Sabha (the lower house of India’s Parliament), Shah explained that the new Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, might not have been needed if a previous law had not been created in 2013 when the Congress party was in control.
Shah reminded everyone that back in 2013, Lalu Prasad wanted a strict law to punish people stealing Waqf land. He even quoted Lalu saying that many valuable lands were being taken away and that buildings had been built where they shouldn’t have been.
Looking at the Opposition members, Shah said that Modi is now doing what Lalu Prasad wanted. “While they (the Opposition) let Lalu’s dreams go unfulfilled, Narendra Modi is making it happen,” he added.
He also expressed that the Opposition is trying to scare people about the new Waqf Bill. Shah assured everyone that no non-Muslim person would manage Waqf properties and that the new law is not about interfering with the religious practices of the Muslim community. According to him, this rumor is just meant to create fear among minorities.
