On April 2, the Lok Sabha is set to discuss and possibly pass the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, even though some people are against it. This Bill is also known as the ‘UMEED Bill’, which stands for Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency, and Development. It aims to solve important problems related to Waqf properties by making some changes. These changes include better record-keeping, more thorough checks, clearer rules, and ways to get back properties that are taken illegally.

The original Waqf Act from 1995 was created to manage Waqf properties, but it has faced many complaints about poor management, dishonesty, and land grabbing. With the new Bill, major partners of the ruling NDA are likely to support it since their ideas have been included.
