A woman was saved in Myanmar’s capital on Tuesday after being trapped for 91 hours in a building that collapsed during a massive earthquake. This earthquake, which happened on Friday, had a strength of 7.7 and caused a lot of destruction. The fire department in Naypyitaw reported that the woman was successfully pulled out from the rubble.

Sadly, hope is fading for finding more people alive. The death count has now gone over 2,700, with 4,521 injured and 441 still unaccounted for. Experts say that the chances of rescuing more survivors drop a lot after 72 hours.

The leader of Myanmar’s military government, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, mentioned that 2,719 people are confirmed dead. The United Nations has reported that there is a big shortage of shelter, clean water, and medicine for those affected by the earthquake.

Multiple UN agencies are worried about not having enough drinking water, which could lead to diseases like cholera. Hospitals are also crowded, and medical supplies are running low.

In a troubling development, just days after the earthquake, the military government has started bombing some areas affected by fighting with pro-democracy groups. Major General Zaw Min Tun, a spokesperson for the military, did not respond to requests for comment but has said that they are focusing on rescue efforts.
