It’s still early in IPL 2025, but it’s exciting to see Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the top of the leaderboard with two wins! Right now, only two teams are undefeated: RCB and Delhi Capitals (DC), both of which have never won the IPL title. RCB leads because they have a better net run rate of 2.266. They started the season strong by beating Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets and then winning against Chennai Super Kings by 50 runs.
Traditionally strong teams like Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Rajasthan Royals are surprisingly at the bottom of the list. However, since the IPL is a long tournament, things can change quickly. If RCB keeps up their momentum, who knows what could happen!
Famous cricketer Virender Sehwag playfully mocked RCB, calling them “gareeb” (poor) because they have never won the IPL in 17 seasons. He joked, “Let the poor have their time at the top; let them take photos. Who knows how long they’ll stay there?” Sehwag meant they are “poor” in terms of trophies, not money, since all IPL teams make a lot of money each season.
RCB, Punjab Kings, and Delhi Capitals have not won the IPL since its start in 2008. Among them, RCB has come closest to winning, reaching the finals three times. They also have a huge fan base that supports them through ups and downs.
This year, RCB has started strong under their new captain Rajat Patidar. Their bowling, which has often been a weak point, is performing exceptionally well. In their first match, Krunal Pandya and Josh Hazlewood took five wickets together to limit KKR to 174 runs. Then, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt scored half-centuries, helping RCB to chase down the target in just 16.2 overs.
In their second match, Patidar scored 51 runs quickly after Salt struggled to score just 2 runs. RCB finished with 196 runs, while Hazlewood (3 wickets for 21 runs) and young bowler Yash (2 wickets for 18 runs) kept CSK down to 146 runs in 20 overs.
