China is ready to help stop the fighting in Ukraine but also supports Russia’s rights, top diplomat Wang Yi told Russian media. Since Russia started its military actions in Ukraine in February 2022, China and Russia have become closer in politics, military, and trade.
Wang met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, where they talked about their strong friendship and the good relationship between China’s President Xi Jinping and Putin.
Wang said, “China is ready to help find a peaceful solution to this conflict, based on what both sides want.” He emphasized working together for global peace and development. Putin expressed happiness with their growing relationship, and Wang highlighted their shared goals.
Putin mentioned preparations for Xi’s visit to Moscow in May, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
China claims it is neutral in this conflict and has not sent military aid to either side, unlike the United States and other Western countries. However, it is a close ally of Russia, and NATO countries have called China a major supporter of Russia’s actions.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has been trying to end the conflict quickly, but his administration hasn’t made much progress in talks. Putin rejected a joint US-Ukrainian plan for a short ceasefire and suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky be removed to help with peace efforts.
