A father from the U.S. is surprised after his very smart son, who has an IQ over 145, got turned down by many top colleges. The only school that accepted him is the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

The dad shared his shock on Reddit, explaining that his son was the top student in his high school of 475 students. Even though he did very well, he couldn’t get into any Ivy League schools. His son has a perfect school record: he scored 1580 on the SAT, got top scores (5s) on 18 Advanced Placement (AP) exams, and received all A’s in 11 college-level courses.

The bright young man also created a popular online gaming website for younger kids, with 180,000 users each month, making $3,100 from ads last year. He dreams of studying computer science and has a paid internship at a local tech company. He also leads the Computer Science club and is the Vice President of the Math team.

Despite such achievements, he was rejected from top universities like Columbia, Harvard, Yale, MIT, Dartmouth, and even major schools in California like Berkeley and UCLA. The family is still waiting to hear from Duke University.

The father shared that his son has always been self-motivated and really wants to work in technology. He pointed out that college admissions are much tougher now than in the past, even for very talented students. Some people on Reddit agreed with him, while others said that UMass Amherst is also a strong school.

A mom with a similar story shared that her son also faced rejections from Ivy League schools despite being valedictorian. This conversation has led to a big debate on social media about how hard it is to get into college nowadays.
