In Bihar’s Munger, an 18-year-old girl hurt herself because her parents wouldn’t buy her an iPhone costing ₹1.5 lakh (about $1,830). She wanted the phone to talk to her partner, who had a similar phone.
For three months, she kept asking her mom for the iPhone, saying she couldn’t speak to her partner without it. When her mother refused, citing their family’s poor money situation, the girl locked herself in a room and cut her wrist with a blade. Luckily, she was taken to the hospital for help.
The doctors say her cuts aren’t deep, but they’re treating them so they don’t get infected. She is now okay and recovering. The girl promised her mom she wouldn’t hurt herself again.
In a separate sad case in Maharashtra’s Thane district, an 18-year-old boy took his own life after arguing with his girlfriend on the phone. After the fight, he hanged himself at home, and the police are now investigating.
