Prithviraj Sukumaran’s movie, L2 Empuraan, is facing re-censorship. The film has been ordered to cut 17 scenes that some people found offensive, especially about the Gujarat riots. His mother, Mallika Sukumaran, stepped in to defend him. She said that some individuals are trying to blame him for what went wrong with the film.

On her Facebook page, Mallika expressed her sadness over the criticism her son is facing. She mentioned that neither the famous actor Mohanlal nor the movie’s producers said that Prithviraj deceived them. Mallika sees Mohanlal as a family member and believes that he knows Prithviraj has always been honest.

She clarified that everyone involved knew about the film’s story and its tone. The script was revised together with the writer, Murali Gopy, and Mohanlal, who all agreed on the final version. Mallika stressed that if any part of the film was a problem, everyone on the team shares responsibility.

Mohanlal had to apologize after some viewers were upset by the film, which shows intense scenes about violence against Muslims. Right-wing groups criticized the film for being one-sided, while others praised it. Despite the trouble, L2 Empuraan is doing very well at the box office, quickly making over ₹100 crore since its release on March 27.
