The Mumbai Indians kicked off the 2025 IPL season with a fantastic start against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium. Captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first, receiving loud cheers from the Mumbai fans. This was a big change from last season when many fans booed him because of rumors about taking over Rohit Sharma’s captaincy after he returned to the team from the Gujarat Titans.
Last season was tough for the Mumbai Indians. They ended up at the bottom of the table, and Pandya had a tough time too, scoring only 216 runs in 14 matches and having a high bowling economy rate of 10.75. However, everything turned around when Pandya helped India win the 2024 T20 World Cup, scoring 144 runs in six innings and taking 11 wickets. He played a key role in the final against South Africa, where India won despite South Africa only needing 30 runs in the last five overs.
After this big win, the mood changed for Pandya in Mumbai. He was welcomed with great cheers during a victory parade and later at Wankhede Stadium. Now, the excitement is back as fans cheer for him as the captain in the first game of the 2025 season.
