People are working hard to rescue survivors from the rubble in Myanmar and Bangkok after a huge earthquake struck the region three days ago. This earthquake, which measured 7.7 on the Richter scale, has sadly killed around 2,000 people.
In Myanmar’s central city of Mandalay, rescuers found four survivors, including a pregnant woman and a young girl. Efforts to help are really tough because there’s a civil war happening in the country, making it dangerous to reach everyone who needs help. A member of the International Committee of the Red Cross said, “It’s hard to access some areas due to security issues from the ongoing conflict.”
In Bangkok, rescuers continued searching the ruins of a collapsed skyscraper, pulling out more victims. So far, 12 people have died there, with 75 still missing. Rescuers are using high-tech scanning machines and sniffer dogs to find people who might still be alive. They know that hope fades after 72 hours but are determined to keep working quickly.
In Myanmar, official reports say at least 1,700 people have been confirmed dead, while some say that number might be over 2,000. The military government there has declared a week of mourning.
Countries like China, India, and Thailand are sending help, including rescue teams and supplies. The United Nations is also sending aid to support survivors. The U.S. has announced $2 million in aid to help those in need.
This earthquake has made life even harder for people in Myanmar, which was already suffering from a civil war. Many homes are damaged, and basic needs like food and healthcare are not being met. People in cities like Mandalay and Naypyidaw are still sleeping outside and are having trouble cooking meals.
