South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun was very emotional during a press conference where he spoke about his late ex-girlfriend Kim Sae Ron, who sadly passed away on February 16. He admitted that they had dated but made it clear that she was not a minor when they were together. However, some people online thought he was “faking tears.”
After the conference, social media exploded with reactions. One user on X shared a crying photo of Kim and wrote, “Does he think we believe these fake tears? He should cry in jail.” Another said, “Not Kim Soo Hyun crying for mercy while denying everything—this feels just like his acting in dramas. It’s all fake.” Others commented, “He’s in a new show called King of Tears,” and “These are crocodile tears.” Some even joked, “Is he auditioning for a drama or what?”
However, not everyone was critical. One person said, “I hope you don’t wait until he’s gone before you feel sorry for him, like what happened with Kim Sae Ron!” Another added, “People criticize him for talking, but also for staying quiet—he can’t win.”
During the press conference, Kim explained why he had denied dating Sae Ron when rumors first came out. He said, “When she posted a photo of us together, I denied we were dating. We had dated for a year about five years ago. I know people might criticize me for this, and I understand why.”
He mentioned that, as the star of Queen of Tears, he could not confirm their relationship publicly because it might hurt his co-stars. He also addressed the claim that he dated Sae Ron when she was a minor by saying, “I did not date her when she was a minor. It isn’t true that she chose to end her life because I ignored her or that my agency pressured her about her debt. We were just like any other couple, and after we broke up, we didn’t stay in touch.”
Kim also released an audio recording to show that his agency, Gold Medalist, did not pressure Sae Ron about any debts. He accused her agency of lying and said he would only be responsible for his own actions.
