The Delhi High Court recently spoke out strongly for soldiers who brave tough conditions to protect our country. A judge, Justice C Hari Shankar, said that while we relax and enjoy hot drinks by the fire, these brave soldiers deal with icy winds and danger every day on the borders.
The court was looking at two army officers who had been denied disability pensions. This means they weren’t being given money to help because of health issues they got during their military service. One officer had diabetes and the other suffered from a serious leg condition. The government argued that because these officers were posted in peaceful areas, their health problems were not related to their service.
However, the court disagreed. It explained that even when soldiers are in peaceful postings, they may still experience stress and health issues due to their job. The court pointed out that diseases can get worse even if they start showing symptoms later on. The judges said that it’s crucial for the country to take care of those who risk their lives for us.
The quote from former U.S. President John F. Kennedy was also mentioned, reminding everyone that we should think about what we can do for our country, rather than focusing on what our country can do for us. In the end, the court decided to support the officers and uphold the orders of the Armed Forces Tribunal, which had granted them their deserved pensions.
