This oddity has led to jokes about the AI tools, like ChatGPT and Grok, being “ghost detectors.” For example, one Instagram user shared a transformed photo of her friends. The original only had four women, but the AI’s version showed five. “So Ghibli is a ghost hunter,” one commenter joked.
Makeup artist Barkha Dahra was surprised when her picture with her husband turned out to have a mysterious extra person. She wrote, “The Ghibli trend is fun until… it spots a ghost.” Other users echoed this experience, calling their posts “ghost detectors.”
