Donald Trump made a bold statement about wanting to take control of Greenland. He spoke to NBC News after Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance visited the island, which stirred up trouble with Denmark. Trump believes he has a responsibility to acquire Greenland, even though Denmark doesn’t want to give it up. He hinted that military force could be an option but also said it might be possible to get Greenland without fighting.
During the interview, Trump emphasized that he has to work for world peace and security. He made it clear that nothing is off the table when it comes to taking action.
People on social media reacted strongly to Trump’s comments. Some suggested he should talk things out instead of trying to take over. Others reminded him that Greenland’s people don’t want this and warned that it might lead to conflict with Denmark, which is part of NATO.
Meanwhile, during his trip to Greenland, Vance criticized Denmark for not doing enough to protect the territory from threats like China and Russia. He even urged Greenlanders to break away from Denmark so the U.S. can have a discussion about taking over. Vance later said he didn’t mean the U.S. would use military force, just that they could negotiate.
Denmark’s foreign minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, responded to the comments, saying Denmark is working hard to improve security in the Arctic and is still open to cooperating with the U.S.
