Ramadoss, the leader of PMK, recently said the Tamil Nadu government needs to create special teaching jobs just for Tamil in primary and middle schools. Right now, there are over 50,000 people in Tamil Nadu who studied Tamil in college but can’t find suitable jobs. Some graduated more than 25 years ago and are still unemployed. Ramadoss believes this is because the government has not given enough importance to the Tamil language.
In Tamil Nadu, Tamil is a required subject in schools, but no specific teachers for Tamil have been hired for grades 1 to 8. This means schools often ask teachers to teach different subjects, but only those who know Tamil well should teach it. Even though many Tamil experts have spoken about this, the government hasn’t listened, which Ramadoss calls unfair.
Because there are no dedicated Tamil teacher jobs in primary and middle schools, many Tamil graduates have ended up in jobs that don’t match their education and pay poorly. Ramadoss argues that this needs to change. He points out the irony that the government claims to care about the growth of Tamil culture while not providing jobs for Tamil graduates.
He is asking the Tamil Nadu government to create special positions for Tamil teachers in primary and middle schools, like they have in higher grades and to also do this in private schools. He suggests that the government hire these teachers with good salaries and give financial support of ₹10,000 a month to those who have been unemployed for more than 5 years.
