Ahmedabad: Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has expressed concerns about Rohit Sharma’s recent performance. Manjrekar believes that Rohit is struggling and that “things are slipping away” for him. He noted that Rohit now needs to motivate himself daily to train hard because he’s not performing like he did a few years ago. The star player from Mumbai Indians scored only eight runs in their latest game against Gujarat Titans, which they lost by 36 runs.
Manjrekar commented on the Mumbai Indians’ batting struggles, stating that Ryan Rickelton, a South African player, needs time to adjust to Indian pitches. He mentioned that not many South African batters have done well in India, except for a few like AB de Villiers. He also pointed out that some players, including Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav, form the team’s core, but he feels they seem a bit shaky.
The expert noted that when chasing a target over 190 runs, building partnerships is crucial, and this didn’t happen for Mumbai Indians. They fell short of their target of 197 runs, ending at 160 for six. Manjrekar remarked that the dew didn’t come in, making it tougher for Mumbai, but he believes it’s normal for them to lose a couple of matches early. Despite the losses, he remains hopeful that Mumbai Indians can still go on to win the title.
