More people in Europe are unhappy with America because of President Donald Trump’s actions. His decisions, like imposing tariffs and threatening military support for countries like Ukraine, have led many Europeans to want to boycott American products. A poll shows that in no country in Europe do most people feel positively about the US anymore. Denmark has seen a significant shift, especially after Trump mentioned taking control of Greenland.
Facebook groups encouraging the boycott of American goods are growing fast. One group in Denmark, called “Boykot varer fra USA,” has gathered over 92,000 members since it started on February 3. Bo Albertus, who helps run the group, says he stopped buying American products to express his frustration. He has even canceled streaming services from American companies and doesn’t eat at American fast-food places anymore. Around half of all Danes are avoiding American products.
Swedes are reacting similarly. A group named “Bojkotta varor från USA” has also gained thousands of followers. Jannike Kohinoor, one of the group’s creators, says they started the group out of anger over Trump blaming the Ukrainian President for the war. A survey shows that around 70% of Swedes are thinking about not buying American goods to make a statement.
In Denmark, Salling Group AS, the biggest grocery chain, is now labeling products from European companies because many customers want to buy only European products. However, experts say it will take time to see the impact on sales.
Tesla has seen a significant drop in sales due to public reaction to Elon Musk’s comments and actions. Sales fell 76% in Germany last month amid political tensions. People across Europe are protesting Tesla, claiming Musk is damaging democracy.
In Norway, a fuel company announced it would stop selling fuel to US military ships, showing public sentiment against America. The company publicly stated, “No fuel for Americans!” but Norway’s government said this goes against their official stance.
People are trying to make a change, but whether it will have a lasting economic effect is uncertain. Kohinoor said they may not see an immediate impact, but they hope to bring social awareness to their concerns.
