OpenAI’s ChatGPT went offline recently, causing problems for users everywhere. The outage happened while many were trying to create Studio Ghibli-style animated avatars, which have become super popular online.

Users quickly reported issues on DownDetector, a site that tracks when services fail. There were 229 complaints, with 59% specifically about ChatGPT. This made it hard for people who depend on the chatbot for work, creativity, and fun.

Fans took to social media to share their frustrations with funny memes about not being able to finish their projects. Earlier in the day, ChatGPT’s image creation tool was very busy with requests for Ghibli-style avatars, putting a lot of pressure on OpenAI’s servers.

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, spoke on X (formerly Twitter) about the situation. He asked users to slow down on making images, saying, “Can y’all please chill on generating images? This is insane, our team needs sleep.” His words showed how hard the company’s engineers were working because of the sudden trend.

Studio Ghibli, the famous Japanese animation company, is known for its beautiful visuals and touching stories. Created by talented animators Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, Ghibli has given us classics like Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro. Their unique style features hand-drawn art, soft backgrounds, and expressive characters, bringing imaginary worlds to life. This beloved and whimsical art is now inspiring social media users to turn themselves and familiar scenes into Ghibli-style art using AI tools, keeping the studio’s charm alive in a modern way.
