Former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary has criticized the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) support staff for not being brave enough to tell MS Dhoni to bat higher up the order. In a recent match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), CSK needed to chase 197 runs. However, Dhoni batted at No. 9, which means he came out to play when the game was almost over. CSK lost by 50 runs, finishing with just 146 runs, while Dhoni scored 30 runs off 16 balls without getting out.
Tiwary doesn’t understand why Dhoni, who can score quickly, didn’t come to bat sooner. He said, “If you know you can do it, you should look to bat higher and try to win the game.” He also requested that Dhoni publicly explain why he batted so low in the order, especially since the crowd cheers loudly when he plays.
Virender Sehwag, another former cricketer, said he wasn’t surprised by Dhoni’s late arrival to bat. He believes Dhoni has decided to come in around the 17th or 18th over, and even if he had batted earlier, it likely wouldn’t have changed the outcome of the match.
This was only the second time in Dhoni’s T20 career that he batted at No. 9, with the first time being against Punjab Kings last season. Following this loss to RCB, CSK has fallen to seventh place in the IPL points table. They will next face the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on Sunday, March 30.
