Kathmandu, Nepal – Former Australian cricketer Stuart Law has been named the new head coach for the Nepal Senior Cricket Team. This news was shared by the Cricket Association of Nepal on their social media on Friday, March 28. Law takes over after Monty Desai left the team in February.
Law is excited about this opportunity, especially after his success coaching the USA Men’s Team for seven months, where he led them to a great performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. During this tournament held in the USA, they shocked everyone by defeating Pakistan and won against Canada, reaching the Super Eight stage.
With a lot of experience coaching teams in different countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies, and Afghanistan, Law will help Nepal improve in cricket. His first big test will be the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series in June, where Nepal will compete against Scotland and the Netherlands. Currently, Nepal is struggling in the league, sitting at 7th place out of 8 teams, with only two wins from 12 matches. The top four teams will get a chance to play in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 Qualifier.
Nepal made its first appearance in a big ICC event back in 2014 and has been playing international cricket since 1996. They also took part in various tournaments like the ACC Trophy, World Cup Qualifiers, and more over the years.
