Bollywood is having a tough time at the box office, with only two movies finding success this year. In a chat with Indian Express, actor Randeep Hooda discussed the problems in Hindi movies and criticized how the industry often copies trends without thinking. He also appreciated South Indian filmmakers for staying connected to their own culture.

Randeep pointed out that Bollywood has a “herd mentality,” where everyone rushes to create similar films if one hits it big. For example, after the movie “Stree,” many filmmakers decided to make horror comedies because of its success. Randeep believes that movies should be made based on creativity, not just trends. He thinks the industry is facing issues because they focus more on making films quickly rather than telling good stories. He noted that there’s little room for trying new ideas.

Randeep mentioned that online streaming platforms (OTT) allow for some experimentation in films, but even those are mostly focused on making money through popular content. He hopes to find a good mix between mainstream films and unique stories that connect with audiences.

He praised South Indian filmmakers for focusing on real emotions in their stories. Randeep said, “They create characters that feel real instead of just focusing on looks. These filmmakers are making movies that people can relate to.” He believes that even though Bollywood is going through a challenging phase, people will continue to enjoy movies and streaming content.

As for Randeep’s next project, he will star in the action thriller “Jaat,” where he plays the role of a fierce villain named Ranatunga. The movie also features actors like Sunny Deol and Regina Cassandra, and will be out in theaters on April 10.
