In Napier, New Zealand, a young cricketer named Muhammad Abbas made history on Saturday by scoring the fastest fifty on his One Day International (ODI) debut. Playing against Pakistan at McLean Park, he reached his first half-century in just 24 balls! This broke the previous record held by India’s Krunal Pandya, who took 26 balls to score his debut fifty in 2021.
Aside from Abbas and Pandya, other players on this impressive list include West Indies’ Alick Athanaze, India’s Ishan Kishan, and England’s John Morris. Muhammad Abbas ended his innings with 52 runs off 26 balls, achieving an incredible strike rate of 200. His innings included three fours and three sixes.
After the match, Abbas shared his excitement, saying, “This is really special. I can’t explain how I feel right now. Chappy (Mark Chapman) was fantastic. I’m happy to show what I can do. My family is here cheering for me, and that makes it even more special.”
In this first ODI match, Mark Chapman played wonderfully and scored a century, while Nathan Smith took four wickets, leading New Zealand to victory over Pakistan. With this win, New Zealand takes a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The second match will be in Hamilton on Wednesday, and the last one will take place on Saturday in Mount Maunganui.
