MI’s Embarrassing Fielding Mistake Gifts Five Runs to GT in IPL 2025

It all started when Sai Sudharsan hit a short ball from Deepak Chahar towards the deep square for what looked like an easy single. But instead of running quickly, Sudharsan jogged. Naman Dhir made a great throw that almost got him run out at the non-striker’s end, but the throw missed the stumps. Since nobody was backing him up, the ball rolled away to the boundary, and what should have been just one run turned into five! This left Mumbai Indians’ players and fans very frustrated.

Famous cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who was commentating during the game, was harsh in his criticism. He said it was “terrible cricket.” He added, “No wonder Deepak Chahar is not happy; those five runs went against him!” Eoin Morgan, another commentator, described the fielding mistake as “sloppy” and pointed out how Sudharsan was just jogging.

Before this moment, Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, won the toss and chose to bowl first against his old team, the Gujarat Titans, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Both teams were looking for their first win after losing their opening matches. MI lost to their rivals, Chennai Super Kings, while GT lost to Punjab Kings in a high-scoring game. Hardik missed the first match because he was punished for a slow over-rate last season, but that rule was lifted before this IPL season.
