The government in Madhya Pradesh has decided to change the term “unemployed youth” to “aspirational youth.” They say this new name sounds better and helps create a positive image. The change was made by the labor department in the state, which is run by the BJP party. This decision has created some heated discussions among job seekers and political opponents.
According to the government, more than 2.93 million “aspirational youth” are registered on the state’s employment website and at local job offices. The website allows young people to create profiles and look for jobs that match their skills.
Labor Minister Gautam Tetwal defended the change, saying many people who are registered want better jobs, not just any job. He believes that the word “aspirational” is positive and encourages young people to find jobs based on their qualifications.
Some officials explained that a few years ago, it became necessary for job seekers to register online for public sector jobs. Many young people who are working in private jobs or helping their families still want to better their situations and are therefore registered for jobs, even if they aren’t completely unemployed.
However, many job seekers are upset about this change. They feel it distracts from the real problem of not having enough jobs available. Mayank Yadav, a Bhopal resident, said he has searched for a job for six years after finishing his studies but has had to take a part-time job to pay for job application fees. He believes he should still be considered unemployed.
Ranjeet Kisanvanshi, a member of a youth organization, expressed frustration over a canceled job exam three years ago, claiming that unemployment remains a big issue while the government focuses on changing how they label job seekers.
Vivek Tripathi, a spokesperson for the youth Congress party, criticized the government, saying they are trying to fool people with this new name instead of solving the problem of unemployment. He reminded people that for the past 20 years, the BJP government has made promises to create jobs but hasn’t delivered.
Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister Mohan Yadav mentioned that there aren’t enough government jobs for everyone. He said the government is trying to help young people find jobs through entrepreneurship and self-reliance. He officially announced that job seekers in the state will now be called “Aspirational Youth.”
