The Ghibli trend is taking over the internet, and even Indian politicians are joining in! Inspired by the famous Japanese animation studio, MyGov, the Government of India, shared fun AI-generated pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Instagram. They wrote, “Main character? No. He’s the whole storyline. Swipe through New India in Studio Ghibli strokes.”
The pictures show Modi in all kinds of situations, like waving the Indian flag, meeting former US President Donald Trump, giving speeches, and bowing before the Ram Lalla idol in Ayodhya.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also got in on the action by sharing a Ghibli-style image of Union Home Minister Amit Shah speaking in Parliament. They captioned it, “PoK is ours, and we will take it back.”
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor shared his own Ghibli art on X, saying, “I’ve been assimilated into the Ghibli trend!” He mentioned that his supporters sent him the pictures and joked, “Didn’t even know what Ghibli was till now, but consider me officially Spirited Away!”
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis posted a Ghibli-style image with Modi, saying, “That’s my Ghibli style entry. Technology just doesn’t stop surprising us pleasantly!” Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar shared a picture with his mom, calling it ‘super cool’. He said, “Aai and I decided that Ghibli is one trend worth a shot! Have to say, it is super cool!”
So, what is this Ghibli trend? OpenAI recently released a new image generator that allows people to create pictures in the beloved hand-drawn style of the famous filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki. Users can go to ChatGPT, enter prompts for Ghibli-style photos, and it will either create new images or change existing ones into anime-style art. Free users can create up to three images!
