India is sending 80 rescue workers from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to help after a powerful earthquake hit Myanmar. This mission, called ‘Operation Brahma’, will use special equipment to rescue people and provide support. The team is expected to arrive in Myanmar by Saturday evening, led by a Commandant officer.
The earthquake, which struck on Friday, also affected Thailand and caused significant destruction, including the loss of buildings and bridges. Sadly, reports say over 1,000 people have died in Myanmar.
This isn’t the first time India has sent help abroad; they previously helped during the Nepal earthquake in 2015 and the one in Turkey in 2023. On Saturday, India also sent 15 tonnes of relief supplies to Yangon, Myanmar’s biggest city, using an Indian Air Force transport plane.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his sadness about the earthquake and assured that India is ready to provide any help needed to both Myanmar and Thailand. It’s worth noting that India shares a long border of 1,643 kilometers with Myanmar on its eastern side.
