Filmmaker Hansal Mehta recently supported comedian Kunal Kamra after he made a statement about Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde that caused some uproar. In an interview with Indian Express, Hansal shared a painful experience from 25 years ago when the Shiv Sena, a political group, attacked him.
Back then, Hansal faced a tough time after his movie flopped. People vandalized his office and painted his face black, forcing him to apologize in front of a large crowd. He described this moment as very humiliating, saying, “I was broken. I didn’t know how to handle it—so I turned to alcohol.”
Hansal, reflecting on the situation, noted that today we understand such moments can lead to issues like PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). He realized that the people who disrespected him were driven by a hunger for power and were not brave at all. Over time, he found his voice and learned that he wasn’t the coward; they were the ones who acted like cowards.
Now, Hansal Mehta is busy working on his upcoming series, “Scam 2010 – The Subrata Roy Saga,” which will tell the story of Subrata Roy based on the book “Sahara: The Untold Story.” He expressed excitement about this project, saying, “For me, Scam is not just a franchise—it’s a reflection of our times.”
