The term “pan-India” became popular in Indian movies after the blockbuster hit “Baahubali.” It means films that can attract audiences from all over India, regardless of the language. In the last ten years, this term has mostly been used for South Indian films that do well in Hindi-speaking areas, but not the other way around.

Actor Salman Khan believes that’s because Hindi movies don’t have much of a market in the South, and people there don’t want to watch Bollywood films in theaters. While promoting his new movie “Sikandar,” Salman shared his thoughts on how Bollywood struggles to reach South Indian audiences. He said, “When my film is released there, it might not perform well because their fans are very loyal. They may recognize me, but they won’t go to see my movies. We enjoy movies from stars like Rajinikanth and Chiranjeevi, but their fans don’t watch our films.”

When asked why Bollywood doesn’t cast South Indian stars to make their films popular down south, Salman replied that a good script is key for such collaborations. However, one major challenge is the cost. He mentioned, “Making a film with stars from different regions is a big responsibility. We all charge money, and you need a strong script to pull it off.”

One upcoming film that includes stars from different regions is Nitesh Tiwari’s “Ramayana,” which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Kannada star Yash, and Telugu actress Sai Pallavi.

As for “Sikandar,” Salman’s new film, it features Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sathyaraj, and Sharman Joshi. It is set to hit theaters on May 30, which is also Eid.

Salman encouraged audiences to watch “Sikandar” and other big releases that week, saying, “I hope everyone can get bonuses on Eid, so they can enjoy ‘Sikandar,’ Mohanlal’s ‘L2: Empuraan,’ and Sunny Deol’s new film ‘Jaat.’ Let’s make it a great movie week!”
