Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu shared some thoughts about MS Dhoni and the strong support he gets from fans of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Rayudu believes that this support has become a bit too obsessive and can put pressure on other players. Fans often want to see Dhoni bat, which can make it hard for new players, as they might feel the crowd wants them to get out quickly so Dhoni can come in.
Rayudu explained that many fans support Dhoni more than the team itself. While he agrees that Dhoni deserves all the love because of his great contributions over the years, he worries that it might hurt the team in the future. He mentioned that when the team plays, the crowd sometimes cheers for Dhoni in a way that makes it uncomfortable for other players.
Dhoni, who is now 43 and retired from international cricket in 2020, bats lower in the order in the IPL. He usually comes to the crease at numbers seven or eight and doesn’t get many balls to play. This makes fans go wild every time he steps onto the field. Rayudu pointed out that several players feel the pressure though they might not say it out loud.
He emphasized that while fans should celebrate Dhoni, they also need to support other talented players like Ravindra Jadeja, who has done a lot for the team. Rayudu warned that if CSK does not focus on promoting other players after Dhoni retires, it might hurt the team’s brand and crowd attendance.
He feels that Dhoni could help balance the fan support by encouraging fans to cheer for everyone in the team, not just him. It’s important to remember that all players work hard for the team and deserve appreciation too.
