VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis is sending prayers to those affected by a strong earthquake in Southeast Asia. This earthquake hit Myanmar and Thailand, causing a lot of damage. The Pope is still recovering at the Vatican after being in the hospital for five weeks due to serious pneumonia.

The Vatican shared that the Pope is praying for the victims in Myanmar and Thailand as they face this disaster. The 7.7 magnitude quake has left many places damaged, especially in Myanmar’s second-largest city.

Since returning to the Vatican, the Pope has started doing physical and breathing exercises to feel better. He is still receiving treatment for a serious lung infection. When he greeted people from the Gemelli Hospital balcony last Sunday, he looked very weak. He was seen later in his white Fiat, using tubes to help him breathe.

Now at the Vatican, the Pope is getting oxygen all day. He only uses special high-pressure tubes at night. If he needs to, he can take a break from the tubes for short times. Since coming back, he hasn’t seen any visitors and is focusing on resting, praying, and doing his papal duties.

Doctors say he needs at least two months to recover and should avoid big crowds. After a health scare in February, they considered stopping treatment but decided to keep going, which eventually helped him beat pneumonia.

It is still unclear if he will be able to join Easter celebrations or the canonization of Carlo Acutis on April 27, who will be the first saint from the millennial generation. Their meeting, scheduled for April 8, was postponed.

On April 7, Cardinal Pietro Parolin met with Polish President Andrzej Duda to discuss important matters, like the war in Ukraine and peace in Europe, which was originally meant to be discussed with the Pope.
