On Friday, Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP IT cell, criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for how she handled a protest at Oxford University. During her speech at Kellogg College, a group of angry students confronted her, shouting slogans about violence against Hindus and women in Bengal. Malviya said Banerjee looked like a “meek shadow” of her usual self and insisted that elections in West Bengal should be fair. He believes she would be voted out if the police and state resources were not misused.
When the students interrupted her speech, Banerjee encouraged them to strengthen their party in West Bengal so they could compete with her. Malviya mentioned that she seemed weaker without the safety of the West Bengal Police around her. He also said the Hindu community in West Bengal was embarrassed by her leadership, claiming that many want her removed as chief minister.
BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal further attacked Banerjee, saying she spread anti-India messages during her talk. He accused her of allowing illegal immigration from Bangladesh into Bengal. During a question and answer session, Banerjee responded to comments about India’s economy, expressing skepticism about the country overtaking the UK in economic terms. She stated, “If there’s an economic war going on in the world, how can we expect to gain? We can only hope.”
