A piece of land with three ashrams, including one owned by Asaram Bapu, who has been convicted of rape, is going to be taken for a new sports area in Motera, Ahmedabad. This project is part of preparations for the 2036 Olympic Games and will include the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave, an Olympic Village, and various sports facilities near the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The three ashrams being affected are Sant Shree Asaram Ashram, Bhartiya Seva Samaj, and Sadashiv Pragya Mandal. A team of three people, led by the head of Ahmedabad’s city management, has started the process to handle this land acquisition according to the master plan for the area.

Some sources suggest that the Sadashiv Pragya Mandal may be allowed to stay if they agree to give up other plots of land. The master plan, which includes plans for the Sports Enclave and Olympic Village, is being created by a global consulting company named Populous, with help from local authorities.

The report shows that the total land needed is about 650 acres. Most of this land (600 acres) is located in nearby areas like Bhat and Sughad, and 50 acres are near the Sabarmati Riverfront. The plan also includes taking residential areas around the stadium, such as Shivnagar and Vanzara Vaas.

The Ahmedabad Collector’s office is in charge of taking the land, and this was approved by a committee led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. They are also looking to acquire land from the Karai Police Academy to build facilities for sports.

The Sardar Patel Sports Enclave will be spread over 280 acres around the Narendra Modi Stadium and 50 acres by the riverfront. Meanwhile, the Olympic Village will take up 240 acres in the Bhat and Sughad areas. Reports from local authorities confirm that the government is ready to start acquiring the needed lands.
