Peshawar – The Jaffar Express train is back to running after it was attacked by militants from the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The train left from Peshawar Cantt Railway Station for Quetta on Thursday, with many safety measures in place to protect the passengers. Federal Minister Amir Maqam waved goodbye to the travelers and prayed for their safety at the station.
There are 280 passengers on the train, with 28 of them traveling straight from Peshawar to Quetta. The train is decorated with the national flag and colorful balloons for its journey. It is expected to arrive in Quetta on Friday at 5 PM after a long 34-hour ride.
The Jaffar Express is special because it is the only train that travels through all four provinces of Pakistan. After the attack on March 11, train services in and out of Quetta were stopped, but they are set to start again soon. The Bolan Mail train will also be running to Karachi.
Minister Maqam spoke to reporters at the station, saying that the plans of terrorists will not succeed. He expressed confidence in the government’s commitment to keeping the country safe. However, he criticized the provincial leaders for only focusing on gaining power in Islamabad rather than working for peace in Balochistan. He believes that people in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have faced terrorism before and that now it is time to prioritize peace over politics.
He also mentioned worries about Afghan refugees and said they would be sent back according to government rules.
