The Indian Army has requested a quick and fair investigation into an attack on Colonel Pushpinder Singh Bath by 12 police officers in Patiala, which happened during a parking disagreement on the night of March 13-14.

Lt. Gen. Mohit Wadhwa, Chief of Staff at the Army’s Western Command, emphasized the importance of an honest investigation that is transparent and done swiftly. He stressed that the guilty officers should be punished quickly to ensure trust between the Army and the Punjab Police, which has had a good relationship for many years.

Colonel Bath, who wants to see justice for himself and his son, has asked the Punjab and Haryana High Court to move the investigation to the CBI or another independent group, as he believes he might not get a fair investigation from the Punjab Police.

The Colonel was reportedly attacked outside a roadside eatery in Patiala, where he suffered an injured arm. After the incident, he was treated initially at a civil hospital, then moved to a military hospital, where he is currently recovering.

In response, the Punjab Police have launched a special investigation team (SIT) to look into the matter thoroughly. They have also suspended all 12 officers involved and started formal procedures against them. The police are working to finish the investigation as quickly as possible, according to Punjab’s Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav.
