Goa’s Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant, told the state assembly on Tuesday that the government plans to collect overdue payments from casinos by March 31. This announcement came after the Leader of Opposition, Yuri Alemao, said that casinos owe the state about Rs 350 crore, with Rs 110 crore stuck because of legal issues. Goa has 15 onshore casinos, and the Chief Minister promised to recover as much money as possible from these casinos by the deadline.

He said the remaining dues would be collected once the court cases are sorted out. Sawant also mentioned that they would make sure to collect all the money from casinos within three months after the court cases are finished. Alemao raised concerns about why the casinos have unpaid dues when citizens have to pay their taxes on time.

He also claimed that some onshore casinos, located very close to the assembly building, are still operating live gaming, which is supposed to be banned. In response, the Chief Minister promised to have officials check these casinos. He confirmed that four legal cases against onshore casinos are currently being investigated.
