Comedian Kunal Kamra spoke to the Mumbai police from Tamil Nadu on Monday. He told them that he will not say sorry for calling Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde a “traitor” unless the courts tell him to. Kamra is sure about his comments and feels no regret. Police have looked into whether anyone paid him to attack Shinde, and Kamra agreed to let them check his bank accounts.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that Kamra should apologize for insulting Shinde. He believes comedy is a form of freedom, but there should be limits to what is acceptable. Fadnavis also mentioned that both Kamra and Rahul Gandhi haven’t read the Constitution, referring to a moment where Kamra showed a copy of it.
Sanjay Nirupam from the Shiv Sena party strongly criticized Kamra and said his show might have received funding from “Matoshree,” which is known as the party’s base. He demanded that Kamra apologize, claiming the comedian’s actions were politically motivated. An FIR (First Information Report) has been filed against Kamra at the police station.
