A woman’s body was found floating in the East River near a busy park in Queens on Sunday morning, March 23. A passerby spotted her about 50 yards from a bloodied Mercedes parked nearby, according to police. Officers were called around 11:15 am after someone reported an unconscious person in the water close to Fort Totten at Cross Island Boulevard.

The woman, thought to be about 45 years old, was discovered near a popular jogging path in Little Bay Park by the Throgs Neck Bridge. Emergency workers declared her dead at the scene.

Nearby, police found a white Mercedes E-class covered in blood, especially on the driver’s side door and interior. Investigators took photos of the bloody car and then examined the woman’s body. The medical examiner will determine how she died, but police have not yet released her name to the public, as they want to inform her family first.

Local residents are shocked by this terrible event in their usually safe neighborhood. An 8-year-old boy named Max said, “I’ve lived here my whole life and never saw a crime scene here. This is terrible. A dead body next to the jogging path and a bloody car? My daughter thought it was a movie.”

Max expressed disbelief, saying, “This is crazy that it happened in such a busy place. People come here to ride bikes, walk dogs, and enjoy the park.”
