Heavy rains hit Bengaluru on Saturday, causing waterlogging and traffic jams. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the city received 3.6 mm of rain with thunderstorms from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM.
Traffic police warned drivers about road changes because of flooding in different areas. While the rain brought some cooling relief from the heat, it also knocked down trees and branches. Sadly, a three-year-old girl lost her life when a tree fell on her during the storm, as reported by Karnataka’s Civil Defence. In total, around 30 trees fell across the city.
Many travelers faced trouble as 19 flights were diverted to other airports due to weather issues. Most of these flights were headed to Chennai. Out of the diverted flights, 11 belonged to IndiGo, while the rest included Air India Express, Akasa, and Air India.
The rain also caused temporary power outages in some regions, and hail was reported in Hosakote, a town near Bengaluru. A user even shared a video showing hailstones falling in that area.
The IMD had forecast light rain and thundershowers for March 22 and 23, affecting Bengaluru and nearby places. The Bengaluru Traffic Police have warned about serious traffic jams on the Nagawara-Hebbal road due to flooding.
