A man named Chunmun Jha has been caught by the police after a shootout in Araria district, Bihar. He was accused of stealing ₹25 crore worth of jewellery from a Tanishq store in Arrah. Three police officers from the Special Task Force (STF) were injured in the encounter.
The police, along with local officials, had gone to arrest Chunmun after a robbery that happened on March 10. During this robbery, thieves broke into the Tanishq showroom at Gopali Chowk and stole many valuables, including gold chains, necklaces, bangles, and diamonds. The robbery was recorded on CCTV.
Kumar Mrityunjay, the manager of the Tanishq showroom, said they called the police for help as the robbery was happening. However, the police did not arrive quickly, which he believes was a serious mistake. Two employees at the store were hurt during the robbery because the robbers hit them with guns.
According to the police, Chunmun has been involved in many bank robberies before this incident. After getting injured in the shootout, he was taken to a place called Narpatganj for treatment.
