West Bengal’s Governor, CV Ananda Bose, recently expressed pride that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will speak at Oxford University. He mentioned that good news for Bengal makes him happy. “It’s wonderful that the Chief Minister, who comes from the land of Rabindranath Tagore, is invited to such an important place,” he told reporters during a CII meeting.
Mamata Banerjee’s lecture at Oxford is scheduled for March 27. While in the UK, she will meet business leaders on March 25 to talk about bringing more investment to West Bengal. Her trip includes other important events, such as attending a program at the Indian High Commission on March 24 and participating in government meetings on March 26 and March 27. She is expected to return home between March 28 and 29.
On another topic, regarding the appointment of a permanent vice chancellor for Jadavpur University, which currently has interim VC Bhaskar Gupta, whose term ends on August 31, Bose said there are two choices: the VC can either retire or stay. “We will choose the best option,” he added, noting that he is also the chancellor of the state-run universities in West Bengal.
When asked about the IPL match scheduled for April 6, Bose mentioned that the game will be moved from Kolkata to Guwahati because there isn’t enough police support for it during ‘Ram Navami’ celebrations. He said that once he has more information, he will take the necessary steps in response.
